Well, the alligator repellent boots worked. We ran into an alligator at the wildlife refuge and it didn't eat me, although one of my fellow photographers informed me that my plan could have backfired, had it been mating season! I have to concentrate on some paid work today and volunteering and a seminar tomorrow but look for the photos to be posted in my personal gallery later this week.
I'm staying up all night for an early Gulf Coast road trip/photo shoot in the morning. No point in going to bed at 11:30 when I have to wake at 2am! I bought black rubber boots with an alligator texture...hoping the alligators at the wildlife refuge will recognize me as one of their own and not eat me.
I am proud to run Autumn Beckman Photography as an environmentally and socially responsible business. Here are two new causes I want to share that I learned about this morning.
First, a local Houston photographer and Photoshop guru, Kristie MacLaughlin, is putting together a book of visual and literary art on Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. She will be self publishing through www.blurb.com which allows proceeds of book/album sales to be donated to charity (I will be using them for photo albums). The proceeds of this book will go to help Louisiana residents affected by the tragic BP oil spill and she is asking for artists and writers to make artistic contributions to the book. I sent two photos to her today. For details on contributing or to get on a list of contacts interested in purchasing the book, please contact me and I'll put you in touch with Kristie. The submission deadline is June 21, 2010. Second, the Houston Area Women's Center, where I volunteer, is looking for donations of school supplies (or cash) for the children they assist who are survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. It's part of an annual school supply drive that they hold. For a list of needed supplies and information on where to donate, click HERE. I've been photographing for many, many years but starting up the business end of it is keeping me REALLY busy! I finally got my SmugMug page up and running so I can post clients' photos in private galleries for them to proof and purchase prints. Got the last of Karen and Jared's engagement party photos up in their gallery this morning. It was a beautiful party! Posting on SmugMug, this website, and my Autumn Beckman Photography Facebook page is time-consuming! It's exciting that I've received so much positive feedback from my work. I HAVE to finish designing my business cards today and send them to the printer so I have something to hand to contacts and potential clients. But first, I need to return a call about a new job. Also need to keep preparing for the maternity portraits scheduled for later this month and try to schedule Emily and Raymond's one year wedding anniversary couples portraits. And then there's my four page to-do list! And my psychology dissertation (where am I going to fit that in?). Well, I'd better get back to work!
